Norway
The Stefanus Alliance International originated in Norway. As an NGO we work actively to influence the authorities in Norway in the fight for religious freedom. We see it as our mission to increase knowledge in Norway about the conditions of religious freedom and the suffering church.
The Stefanus Alliance has no envoys or missionaries. We work through partners in a number of countries, and have a staff of advisors who regularly visit partners to follow them up, help develope projects and make sure that the funding reaches its receivers safely. We also have communications advisors who visits partners in order to gather stories and information for the supporters.
We see it as our mission to increase knowledge in Norway about the conditions of religious freedom and the suffering church. We engage individuals and congregations, build networks and make awareness campaigns.
This is some of the activities we do in Norway:
• We engage congregations, kindergartens and other groups and ensure that they receive information - through meetings and written material.
• We organize fundraising.
• We run teaching for confirmation graduates (FBI course), teaching in mission, and teaching about human rights and freedom of religion at schools and colleges
• We lobby the Norwegian parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others about the need to fight for freedom of religion and protect religious minorities
• We do not go into individual cases in asylum matters, but we engage in principle and in 2017 played a central role in preparing the report Faith, hope and persecution II together with several other churches and other actors.
• We organize intercessory prayers and appeals for people who suffer for their faith. Together with Open Doors Norway, we organize torchlight processions every autumn.
• We organize seminars and other events.
• We contribute resources to Sunday for the persecuted and other events in Norwegian congregations
• We participate in a number of networks with actors in the field of freedom of belief - in professional and ecclesiastical contexts - to fight the cause of suffering minorities.
• We prepare teaching materials for use in Norway and many other countries. The booklet "Freedom of belief for all" has been translated into 9 languages.
• We carry out extensive information work through Magasinet Stefanus, www.stefanus.no, social media and by writing articles and contributing through interviews in the media.
• We produce films.
